The sides and shelves are covered in a rich black laminate finish.

Keep in mind many items are (double boxed) for added protection and although an exterior box may arrive in bad shape the interior box and contents usually are fine. On occasion "packing wood" pieces are used for additional support and may be visible due to a torn outer carton. These are only packing materials.
